In 1959 MLW offered a program to CN that would replace 244 engines in FPA-2 locomotives with upgraded 251 engines, essentially making them FPA-4s. Part of this program was the use of the used 244 engines in the RSC-24 locomotives. CN’s four RSC-24s were the only ones built.
