CN had four SD38-2s that operated mainly in Western Canada and five other SD38s (not SD38-2) that belonged to GTW. They all produced 2000 horsepower and had a rated top speed of 65 miles (105 kilometres) per hour. They had six-wheel trucks, narrow nose cabs, and the SD38-2s have dynamic brakes.
