No. 5834 was bought new by GTW from EMD in January 1980, part of an order for five GP38-2s which was the last time GTW bought new locomotives. No. 4932 was built by EMD for Missouri Pacific in January 1972. It was purchased by GTW in 1990 and rebuilt at GTW’s Battle Creek, Michigan shops, released to service on September 20, 1991. It was renumbered to No. 4932 on January 27, 1997.
