CN 2013 East with gypsum from the quarry at Milford is passing Endfield NS on December 22, 1987. The train is bound for Wrights Cove on the Dartmouth Subdivision. There the train will be backed into position to be dumped and eventually loaded on to freighters for export.

  1. The big MLW/Alco’s were a favourite of former CNRHA president Marc Simpson. As I recall Marc made some trips to Quebec and the Maritimes during his time in the geological industry and managed to capture the CN variety in action. We didn’t get many of them in western Manitoba so I am not sure what fuelled his fascination with them. My father would ask Marc “Why do you like those dirty old Alco’s?” when he visited. My first encounter with a CN one was on an eastbound at Komoka Ontario in the 1980s. The engine stack was billowing exhaust. Quite a show as it raced by, like rolling thunder.
