Retired CN locomotive engineer Mark Perry from Winnipeg, Manitoba has agreed to share some of his photographs and photographs from his collection in this space.

CN GP40-2L(W) No. 9597 leads SD40-2W No. 5264 and train #359 at Deepdale, Manitoba on February 22, 1996. Deepdale is on the Togo Subdivision between Roblin (Mile 62.6) and Togo (Mile 79.5). The Togo Subdivision runs between Dauphin, Manitoba and Canoray, Saskatchewan.

No. 9597 was built by GMD in July 1975 and assigned builder’s no. A3232. It was retired August 19, 1996 and sold to Helm Leasing. It went to Kansas City Southern as no. 4716 wearing KCS’ solid grey paint scheme. When they were rebuilt for KCS dynamic brakes were added and the bell was removed from between the numberboards and replaced with a second set of headlights. Eventually the lower set of headlights was removed. It was later renumbered to KCS No. 2914 and then KCS No. 3014. KCS currently classes it as a GP40-3.

Train #359 operated between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Prince George, British Columbia.
