CN M-636 No. 2315 (and a second unidentified M-636) shares an unknown engine facility with Lehigh Valley U23B No. 512 in November 1976. Lehigh Valley No. 512 became part of Conrail when Conrail began operations on April 1, 1976. When Conrail began it assumed operations of parts of seven bankrupt railroads – Penn Central, Ann Arbor, Erie Lackawanna, Lehigh Valley, Reading, Central Railroad of New Jersey and Lehigh & Hudson River. It was desperately short of serviceable locomotives so turned to the lease market. CN leased a number of locomotives to Conrail including M-636, C-424, GP40-2W and GP38-2W models.
