CN SD40s Nos. 5108 and 5117 are leading a westbound grain train in the year at Jasper Alberta on May 31 1986.
While No. 5108, like most CN locomotives in this era was not equipped with dynamic brakes, No. 5117 is one of the relatively small number of CN SD40s that were equipped with dynamic brakes.
It is amazing how train fans of that vintage took engines like these for granted. We were primarily after the ‘Draper Taper’ 5400 and 5500 engines in the late 1980s as they were new.
